This document explores the similarities and differences between the Network Time Protocol (NTP) and the IEEE 1588 Precision Time Protocol (PTP).

For the configurations considered in this doecument, these protocols provide clock synchronization in high-speed local area networks.

Ether CAT - Ethernet for Control Automation Technology - is an Ethernet-based fieldbus system, invented by Beckhoff Automation.

The protocol is standardized in IEC 61158 and is suitable for both hard and soft real-time requirements in automation technology.

It does not support operations such as open, edit and modify.

A workaround is to copy to the hosting system for these operations and then copy back.

The USB Implementers Forum device working group standardised MTP as a full-fledged Universal Serial Bus (USB) device class in May 2008.

The main purpose of this protocol is to allow only the transfer of media files and associated metadata to and from portable devices, one transfer function, in or out, at a time.

MTP is a key part of WMDRM10-PD, a digital rights management (DRM) service for the Windows Media platform.Picture Transfer Protocol (PTP) is a protocol developed by the International Imaging Industry Association to allow the transfer of images from digital cameras to computers and other peripheral devices without the need of additional device drivers. It is further standardized for USB by the USB Implementers Forum as the still image capture device class.USB is the default network transport media for PTP devices. The Ether CAT slave devices read the data addressed to them while the telegram passes through the device, processing data "on the fly".Similarly, input data are inserted while the telegram passes through.
